Business Practice Group

Our Business Practice Group attorneys have a broad base of education, training and experience. Many of our attorneys have joined the firm after working in a variety of fields, including banking, education services, and health care education services.

The attorneys in our Business Practice Group assist individuals as they plan to transfer wealth to the next generation, in the administration of estates, as they buy and sell real estate, and as they contemplate the federal and state tax ramifications of their decisions. We work with our business clients, from start up ventures to large publicly traded corporations, including both for-profit and not-for-profit entities, with respect to a wide range of business transactions and relationships.

Commercial Transactions, Creditors' Rights, and Bankruptcy
We provide clients with extensive expertise in the planning, negotiation, and documentation of commercial transactions and in the exercise of creditors' rights. Our attorneys are recognized for their outstanding ability and experience in all types of bankruptcy proceedings.

Corporate Law & Business Organizations
We provide advice and documentation for medium and small business from start up to winding down.

Employee Benefits
We practice in the areas of executive compensation, employee benefits, and pensions. We represent both private employers and labor groups in implementing appropriate qualified and non-qualified deferred compensation programs and employee benefit plans for their employees and members.

Estate Planning
Our attorneys have extensive experience in planning for and implementing simple to complicated estate plans for individuals and families including special needs and elder issues.

Health Law
We represent a variety of health care providers and professional health care organizations, advising them on issues including risk management, peer review, regulatory compliance, employment contracts, employee benefits, and protected health information.

Hospital Law
We have long-standing relationships with non-profit hospitals and do significant work in matters such as risk-management, medical staff issues, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and real estate transactions.

Non-Profit Organization Law
We assist and advise numerous non-profit organizations concerning issues of compliance with tax and state law.

Probate
Our attorneys handle probate procedure from start to finish for simple estates as well as more complicated estates that involve federal estate tax returns.

Real Estate
We handle a variety of real estate transactions, including contracts, offers to purchase, abstract examination, and document preparation.

Taxation
We advise and represent clients concerning income, estate, gift, excise, and sale tax matters and tax disputes with the Internal Revenue Service and the Iowa Department of Revenue. We also prepare tax returns for individuals and businesses.
