A 1972 graduate of the University of Iowa College of Law (J.D. with distinction). He has been a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers since 1988; a member of the Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers; a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (President Iowa Chapter 1989-1993) and a member of the Iowa Defense Counsel Association (President 1988-1989). He served on the Iowa Supreme Court Advisory Committee on the Rules of Civil Procedure from 1981 to 1987; and on the Iowa Supreme Court Special Committee on Discovery from 1986 to 1988. He was independent counsel for the Iowa Senate Ethics Committee in 1992. He is a member of the Linn County, Iowa State and American Bar Associations. He speaks French and practices in all areas of civil litigation.
